I see a coffee can. Early nineties F-series?

Damn that’s a long time. I usually just find stupid ways to kill them within a few years. Dome light, door ajar, 12v still on, you name it.

Early 90s F-150?

Yup! Rusty is a 1995 XLT. I’m the second owner.

I love that it’s a factory part...always amuses me

I think that’s how I killed this one. It may have lasted longer if I didn’t play Tom Bodett and leave the lights on for someone..

Holy jeez is that battery old. I’m impressed it lasted that long, well done.

Yup. 1995 XLT 4b4.

Me too, it just looks so ad hoc.

You might be mourning a fallen commrade, but I refuse to honor that name. Megatron might have kept your truck running, but whenever he wasn’t your reliable battery, he was a huge asshole to everyone else and making life on earth for humans and transformers alike that much more terrible.

It surprised me too. It came with the truck. The first owner was meticulous with maintenance though.

What else were going to do? NOT play Tom Bodett? Absurd.

Last good looking Ford truck generation.
![]() 07/11/2015 at 20:34 |

Right? It’s a full on 1970s leftover.

I’m warming up to the 97+ trucks. I wouldn’t buy one but they’re OK.
Funny thing is how easy it would be to make this thing look like a 1981. Which is something I’d like to try..

The way the grille bezel is attached reminded me of my truck. If I use a cordless drill I can remove my grille and bezel in less than 60 seconds, Its literally on there with like 15 phillips screws.
![]() 07/11/2015 at 20:40 |

Sounds avout right. I think there are 5 holding the grill in and 2 holding each Headlight bezel in.
Thankfully they used Phillips and not Torx. I’ve never had luck with Torx screws..

I wouldn't be surprised.
![]() 07/11/2015 at 20:41 |

Thankfully they used phillips there, although they used torx pretty much every where else

Hey, what he does in his spare time is none of my business!

I think they were more widely used on the Ranger than this gen of F series. My “project scrap value” Ranger had Torx everywhere kinda.
Luckily several hillbillies had their way with it before I bought it. Every other screw was replaced with some random fastener. Wood screws, Drywall screws, Machine screws, you name it.

Ya, my truck has torx everywhere. Also, your post reminded me that I still have the battery my truck came with in my garage and I just got a look at it. It lasted exactly 10 years; 11/04-11/14. 90s Fords dont eat batteries often do they?

It’s sure looking that way!

Yeah, those are really good batteries!
Deka batteries are good, too. You can get them at Napa.

I’m heading to Napa in the morning.
I would normally go to Illinois Battery but they’re closed tomorrow. I need this thing running for Monday.

Napa is a great choice. Their batteries are great, and they have the Napa Know How :p
You may be able to order it online, pick up in-store, and save 10%

Oof! Didn’t expect a Pineapple Express reference.
Well played!

Napa Know How, Napa Know How.
Even at full price Napa is a deal, I trust their “cheap” stuff more than the “Lifetime” parts from VatoZone, O’Murrays or the Three Stooges.
Oddly, our local Napa used to be my “Church” when I was in my 20s. I’d go there to drink free coffee and BS with the staff and some old timer regulars every Sunday morning.
